Bell Rd

The design brief for 21 Bell Road South was to create a warehouse scheme that challenged the current quality and aesthetics of existing buildings, while providing a degree of adjustability in terms of unit sizes for prospective tenants.

The scheme sits at the foot of Wainuiomata Hill along a major transport route into central Lower Hutt. The design comprises of six warehouse tenancies of varying sizes arranged around a central carparking area.

Entrance to the site is marked between prominent showrooms, and the street edge is softened further by generous planting to the site frontage. Given the high street visibility and traffic volume passing the site, design emphasis is placed on street-facing showrooms.

 
These showrooms utilise materials such as Alucobond aluminium cladding, double height sloping shopfront windows and patterned precast concrete wall elements. Elsewhere materiality is more industrial with precast concrete panels and roller-shutter doors comprising the inner facades.
