Chaffers Dock & Boat Houses
Chaffers Dock Development
This development transformed the old Herd Street Post and Telegraph building into a smart and vibrant Chaffers Dock complex. It houses 64 apartments on the upper five levels and a mix of retail, restaurants and cafes at ground level. People can move from Waitangi Park to the waterfront via a spacious covered atrium, which provides shade and shelter for park visitors. Chaffers Dock's ground floor piazza features a range of goods and services to tempt park goers, apartment dwellers and passers by. The BoatHouse
This was designed as the "Jewell of the harbour", sitting proudly adjacent from the main building to maximise the views across Chaffers Marina and Wellington waterfront.
The disjointed facade and irregular lines take their shape from a cut diamond. The sun refracts off the harbour water and building from every angle during daylight and night fall. The building lights the marina with extensive use of glazing and good ascent lighting.
The external facade is a combination of glazed curtain walls to the rear and both sides, and a more standard architectural window suite to the front. Exposed steel and robust aluminium flashings bring the building together to create this unique design for all to enjoy.
Restaurants on the ground floor, link the boathouse back to the main building through the atrium space, providing a cosmopolitan feel to the waterfront. There are only six apartments in the boathouse, two per floor. Each apartment has external decks, individual design and expansive views across the harbour. Developer: Mahoney Corporation LtdArchitects: ArcHaus Architects Ltd & Warren and Mahoney Ltd
